FROM SOUTH TO NORTH KYRGYZSTAN


More and more travellers prefer to combine the two neighbouring countries: Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. If you are one of these travellers, this itinerary is for you. We will welcome you at the border and show you our beautiful country, including the base camp of the fabulous Lenin Peak.

DAY 1:
ARRIVAL IN OSH

Welcome at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border “Dostuk – Dustlik.” Transfer to the hotel. Rest. Then, visit the tourist sites of Kyrgyzstan’s second largest city: its market, parks, and of course the Sacred Mountain of Sulaiman located in the city center. Dinner in a traditional restaurant where you will enjoy delicious Kyrgyz dishes.
Overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 2:
OSH – LENIN PEAK BASE CAMP (7,134 m) (250 km – 4 h)

Transfer to the base camp located at an altitude of 3,600 m, from where all mountaineers set out to conquer Lenin Peak (said to be the most accessible of the “7,000” peaks). We will take the main road leading to Tajikistan and China. Dinner and overnight stay in a yurt or tent.
Elevation gain: +2,500 m

DAY 3:
HIKING

Hiking (round trip) to approach Base Camp #2 of Lenin Peak, located at 4,400 m. We will hike across rivers and mountains, always with a view of Lenin Peak. In the evening, return to Base Camp #1.
Night in a yurt or tent.

DAY 4:
BASE CAMP LENIN PEAK – OSH – JALAL ABAD (350 km – 4 h)

Transfer to Osh where we will have lunch in a restaurant, then drive to the city of Jalal-Abad. On the way, visit the mausoleums and an 11th-century tower in the city of Ozgon. In Jalal-Abad, we will check into a nice hotel after two nights in tents (or yurts). Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 5:
JALAL ABAD – KAZARMAN (200 KM – 4 H)

We leave the city of Jalal-Abad. Today our destination is the village of Kazarman. It is just a place to spend the night before our next destination. But the road leading there is very pretty, with beautiful scenery. Dinner and night in a guesthouse.
Elevation gain: +1400

DAY 6:
KAZARMAN – SON-KOL LAKE (200 KM – 5 H)

We arrive at Son-Kol lake, located at an altitude of 3016 m. This is a place that hosts all the shepherds who come here to set up their yurts with their animals for the whole summer. If you come here in late May/early June or late September, you can see the transhumance to the lake/to their villages. Dinner and overnight stay in a yurt.

DAY 7:
DAY IN SON-KOL

Rest day. Participate in the nomadic lifestyle: milking cows and mares, preparing “Kuruts” – a hard, salty cheese made from yogurt. You can also taste Kumyz – fermented mare’s milk. Horseback ride lasting a few hours.
Dinner and overnight stay in a yurt.

DAY 8:
SON KOL – BOKONBAEV (240 km – 5 h)

We arrive in this village located on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kol, whose name means ‘hot lake’. It is the largest lake in the country and the second largest alpine lake in the world. We will take part in an imitation eagle hunt.
Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Elevation: – 1300

DAY 9:
BOKONBAEV – KARAKOL (135 km)

On the way, we visit the Skazka and Jeti-Oguz canyons and take a walk to one of the Barskoon waterfalls.
Upon arrival in Karakol, we will visit the famous Dungan mosque of Karakol, built by a Chinese architect in the early 20th century, and an Orthodox church.
Dinner in a restaurant.

DAY 10:
KARAKOL ALTYN ARASHAN (HIKING)

We leave with our driver for the village of Ak-Suu, where we leave him behind to continue on foot to Altyn-Arashan. It is a 4-5 hour hike. Upon arrival, we will bathe in the hot springs. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Elevation gain: +600 m

DAY 11:
ALTYN ARASHAN – KARAKOL – TAMCHY (TREK + 2.5 H DRIVE)

Departure after breakfast.
4 hours of walking to descend to the village of Ak-Suu where our driver will be waiting to take us to Karakol. Lunch in a restaurant in Karakol. After lunch, we will leave for the village of Tamchy located on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kol.
Dinner and overnight stay with a local family.
Elevation: – 800

DAY 12:
TAMCHY – BISHKEK

On the way, a 2-hour walk (round trip) in the Konorchek canyons. Then, visit the Burana Tower not far from the city of Tokmok. In the afternoon, we will take a short tour of the city: Ala-Too Central Square, Osh Bazaar, etc.
Dinner in a restaurant.
Overnight at a hotel.
